In this module of the course, we explore anatomy and neurology at an introductory level to give us the vocabulary and theory to go deeper into how our brains and bodies work together and impact our relationships to ourselves and others.
Today’s lesson should help you: Expand understanding of ourselves as well as why and how we interact with others. Develop skills for obtaining a deeper sense of self.
First, it is important to obtain a deeper understanding of what self-awareness means. In fact, there are two different types of self-awareness: internal and external. Dr. Eurich’s article defines self-awareness very well. Please read through her article.
It is important to be conscious of whether your internal or external self-awareness may be higher or lower than the other, and how that affects your perception of yourself and the world.
One way that you can increase your self-awareness is by recognizing your attachment style. There are four different attachment styles. This video outlines those differences and explains how to spot them at school, work, in a relationship, and in a crisis.
Mindfulness is closely linked to self-awareness. One organization: mindful.org, explains the basics of mindfulness and a few mindful practices.
With both self-awareness and mindfulness, breathwork often comes into play as an important practice.
Many do not realize the extensive benefits of breathwork. There are many different methods for practicing breathwork, however, one of Causewell’s favorites is the Wim Hof Method.
